When Connie Taylor approached us with her vision for a waterfront structure in Holiday Estates, we knew this project would be something special. The Chippendale railing request immediately captured our attention. Named after renowned 18th-century furniture maker Thomas Chippendale, these ornamental railings feature intricate geometric patterns with interlocking diagonal designs that evoke both historical elegance and surprisingly contemporary appeal. We had never built Chippendale handrails before, which made this custom dock design project both a challenge and an exciting opportunity to expand our craftsmanship.

Research and Custom Fabrication

Understanding the complexity of authentic Chippendale patterns, we dove into research to ensure we could deliver exactly what Ms. Taylor envisioned. The intricate fretwork panels required precise measurements and careful planning to achieve the characteristic interlocking diagonal patterns that define the style.

Rather than attempting to construct these elaborate railings on-site at the waterfront, where working conditions can be unpredictable and precision more difficult to maintain, we made the strategic decision to manufacture the custom Chippendale panels in our climate-controlled fabrication shop. This approach allowed us to:
